Black Agouti Husky : A breed with a wolf-like face and a very soft heart

    Black-Agouti-Husky

Black Agouti Husky is a breed that goes almost 1500 years back. They come from the same family tree as the Taymyr wolves that are now extinct. These dogs were trained in the huge coldness of Siberia and raised at high altitudes of ice.

Agouti Huskies were first trained as working dogs in the Arctic Circle. They carried people and supplies from one place to another in the summers and drew sleds in the winters during heavy snowfall. They were known as very devoted and spirited dogs.

    Overview of Black Agouti Husky

Black Agouti Huskies are generally famous for their looks and wolf-like appearance but if look beyond their looks there is so much more that will catch your eyes. Their history is the same as any other Siberian Husky. They were trained as working dogs to transport goods from one place to another in the ice cold.

Their face is exactly like an intimidating wolf. They give the impression that they are very scary and fierce, but they are of a very friending nature and will start rubbing themselves against you asking you for attention.

After reading about their personality traits you will surely want them in your house. They are lapdogs and want your attention all the time. You can’t leave them alone for a very long time as they get separation anxiety.

Black Agouti Husky contains very high energy levels that he needs to spare. You can use this energy in training and exercising. You have to keep them busy so they can use this energy and get tired or they will begin chewing your things or scratching your sofa.

    Appearance and Care

    Looks

Their eyes are brown or they can inherit the blue eyes of a Husky. They may look like a fawn or a sable like a German Shephard or have tan points or a coloring of a wild type.

    Size

They are generally same in the height as the Siberian Husky. They are generally 20 to 25 inches in height. Their weight can vary between 30 to 60 pounds.

    Coat

They have the double coat of a Husky, with soft and dense fur in the inner layer. Their outer coat range is between short to mid-length difference. They have straight coats that need regular brushing or they might start matting or tangling.

    Color

Their coat is generally of color charcoal grey, grey and white, pale grey, blackish grey, and darker grey. Their coat colors are the same as those of a wolf. Agouti is a word that describes the dark and banded coat colors. It means their single hair will be a mix of two colors.

    Lifespan

They can live up to 10 to 15 years. They might live longer than this if take good care of their needs and health. Regular vet checkups will also help in increasing their lifespan.

    Grooming:

Their needs for grooming are very high. Their coat needs daily brushing. You can bathe them when they are dirty or once a month. You need to brush their teeth daily or at least twice a week. Clean their ears once a week and their eye boogers daily.

    Shedding

Actually, Agouti Huskies shed a bit. Their shedding gets bad twice a year during spring and fall when they shed their undercoats. During these seasons, it is important for you to brush their coat daily, or else they will start tangling.

    Temperament and Behavior

    Outgoing

They are a very friendly and outgoing breed. Black Agouti Husky will become your friend in no time and will create an attachment bond with you. They don’t care if they are strangers or not. They just want to run and play with you.

    Intelligent

Like other Husky breeds, Black Agouti Husky dogs are very intelligent and are very quick to act. They were bred as working dogs so they are also very active and energetic. They are smart and extrovert. You can train them easily because of their high intelligence level.

    Not afraid of strangers

They are very friendly towards everyone. They love people in general and yearn for their love. Black Agouti Husky dogs open up to strangers and start showing their belly asking for belly rubs. For this very reason, they are not best choice for watchdogs.

    Aggressive

Black Agouti Husky dogs are not aggressive towards anyone unless you start shouting at them or start punishing them. They like a peaceful environment as they themselves don’t like to bark.

    Diet and Health

    High-quality food

As they are a very active and energetic breed, they need high-quality dog food. They are working dogs so they need food that contains minerals, necessary oils, proteins, and all the supplements. Make sure you don’t give them human food that could disturb their stomach like chocolates, caffeine, and vegetables like garlic and onion.

    Health risks

Agouti Huskies, like many other dog breeds, are susceptible to a number of health issues, such as:

Vision issues: In contrast to juvenile cataracts, which result in hazy lens opacity and may lead to permanent blindness, glaucoma is caused by damage to the nerve serving the back of the eye. A genetic illness called progressive retinal atrophy causes a dog to gradually go blind over time.

Hip dysplasia: This condition affects a lot of dog breeds, big and tiny. A hip joint functions as a socket and a ball. The ball and socket do not fit or develop correctly when hip dysplasia takes place. Dogs find it difficult to sit or stand as a result.

Arthritis: When you have arthritis, this can range from mild and infrequent when to dogs who are really struggling walkers.

Epilepsy: It is a nerve disorder in which a dog starts having seizures and shaking. There is generally no main reason for this order, it is mainly gene-inherited.

Some major diseases you can easily prevent by looking after your dog’s health! You also want to get your dog examined periodically by the vet so you can catch any diseases early and take steps to prevent them.

    Training and Exercise

    Not easy to train

By nature, Agouti Huskies are very stubborn and independent. This is the reason why they are so difficult to train. Their prey-catching drives are very strong and they are easily distracted by other things. It is challenging to motivate them. They can not be easily persuaded. It takes a professional’s help to train them.

You can try training Black Agouti Husky by using high-value treats and something that will motivate them. Make sure to keep your training sessions short so they don’t get bored. Five to ten minutes is more than enough.

    High energy levels

We know that Huskies were trained to pull sleds across long distances in the huge coldness of Siberia. So naturally, they have very high energy levels. They need a lot of energy to spare. You need two to three hours to spend on their exercises per day.

    Fenced yard

Fenced yard is a must for them as they like to roam and play a lot. They are very energetic, you might not be able to handle them. You can not take them to parks without a leash. They adore running, you can take them jogging and their exercise of the day will be done.

    Indecent activities

If your dog is not trained or exercised for a day, they will be bored and will have a lot of energy. They will start spending this energy on things you do not like such as chewing things like your shoes or scratching your sofa. They will do this to get your attention.

If they get to spend their energy of the day exercising and training, they will get tired and will remain calm the whole day.

    Watchdogs

Agouti huskies are not good watchdogs and they don’t guard well. It’s mainly because of their friendly nature. They will start asking for belly rubs instead of getting defensive. They don’t like to bark despite their wolf-like appearance.

    Final thoughts:

You should get an Agouti Husky if you have a fully fenced yard because they are very energetic and like to roam. They need intense activities like jogging and hiking. They are incredibly friendly by nature and are very good with kids and other dogs.

They are not for you if you want an easily trained dog. They are very quiet and like peaceful places. Don’t go on their looks, they are not very good watchdogs.
