What to expect from Husky Poodle: Huskydoodle

by Tamazir Sheikh November 12, 2024
    written by Tamazir Sheikh
    Husky-Poodle

A Husky Poodle is a result of crossbreeding between a wolf-like appearance Husky and an affectionate nature Poodle. There are many names available for this breed like Huskydoodle, Poosky, and Siberian Husky. They have the double coat of a Husky and the allergic nature of a Poodle. They are very friendly and outgoing canine. Because of this quality, they make excellent family pets.
As the Siberian Husky is famously known for his working qualities, a Huskydoodle also inherits this trait. He inherits the double and thick coat of a Husky but he doesn’t shed as much as a Husky. Poodles are mainly famous for their non-shedding coat. How much a Huskydoodle sheds is a question whose answer depends on whose genes from his parents are more prominent.

Overview of Appearance of Husky Poodle

    Looks

Coming into being by crossbreeding of a Husky and a Poodle, the breed surely inherits both the traits of his parents. This makes him very unique and different from many others. His eyes are beautiful and striking. They are wide and are either blue or any other dark color. It can also be multicolored, one blue and the other dark.

The charming face of Huskydoodle draws people’s attention and his intelligence makes them adopt him.

His nose is black and his ears are floppy. His coat can be curly if he inherits Poodle genes and won’t shed much and if he goes for Husky genes his coat will be straight and will generally shed. He has a coat of colors like black, grey, and tan, and can be a mix of these colors.

    Size

Male Husky Poodles are generally around 20 inches tall while female Huskydoodles are approximately 18 to 19 inches in height. The weight of males is around 45 to 60 pounds and the weight of females is around 40 to 50 pounds.

They are well-suited for many activities like obedience training and quickness courses because of their intelligence. While adopting you should keep in mind that they are very zestful and need daily exercise. You need to keep them busy physically and mentally. You can take them on daily walks and hide their food in different places for them to find.

    Husky-Poodle

Personality and Temperament of a Husky Poodle

    Stubborn

This mix breed can be a stubborn canine sometimes. They will refuse to come when you call them and simply wander off. They know exactly what you want and still decide to ignore you. This trait of theirs can be fixed by properly training them.

    Destructive behavior

These dogs are very energetic and like to keep themselves busy. If don’t give them something to keep themselves busy, they will get bored. This will lead to unwanted destructive behavior. They will start chewing your shoes or other things in the house. They will start digging in the yard. You can solve this issue by giving them some chewing balls or toys to keep them entertained.

    Family pets

Husky Poodles are a great choice for family pets because of their friendly and fun-loving nature. They are also good with kids and other pets. They get along with everyone. They yearn for attention. They are very socialized.

    Lapdogs

Husky Poodles need more than the usual amount of mental stirring but to spend time with you, they will happily cuddle with you on a sofa and become couch potatoes. They will be your lapdogs.

    Husky-Poodle

Exercise and Training of Husky Poodle

    Energetic

Husky Poodles are one of the breeds of dogs that are very energetic. They like to keep themselves busy and want to play most of the time. They want your attention and also want you to play with them. You need to keep them busy mentally and physically otherwise they may be depressed.

    Separation anxiety

Husky Poodles are not very fond of living on their own. They need love and attention all the time. If you leave them alone for a long time, they will get separation anxiety. You need to leave someone with them who will look after them if you are going on a long trip.

    Intelligent

They are very intelligent and very quick to learn. You can train them in a very short time. Their one of the best qualities is that they want to learn themselves. You can start training them by giving them simple commands at first like sit, and stand, or by teaching them where is food bowl or litter box of theirs.

    Stubborn

Husky Poodles can be stubborn sometimes like most of dogs are. They will start ignoring you and won’t obey your commands. You can get rid of this trait by training them. They will become well-behaved and well-mannered.

    Affectionate

They are very affectionate and loving to their owners. They are a very loyal breed. They tend to create a form of attachment to people quickly. They are super clingy too. So, you will get two in one dog, a fun-loving dog in a day and a lapdog by night.

    Adventurous

They are very adventure-loving. They love to go hiking and picnics. They are very fond of parks and want to go on a park date with their owners. They also love to play fetch and many other games. You can keep them busy mentally by hiding their food in different parts of the house and making them find it.

Food and Health of Husky Poodle

    Diet

As they are of size medium to large, there should be a proper dietary plan created for them. If you give them food more than they need, they will gain weight and become a victim of obesity. Give them food in short portions and give them at the scheduled time. Don’t give them very much treats. As they reach adulthood, change their food to senior level. Your vet will recommend the food best for your dog.

    Common Issues

They are generally a very healthy breed but still they may suffer from some common issues. They may inherit diseases that their Husky and Poodle suffer from. This is the reason they should be taken good care of.

Brachycephaly, or the arguably shorter cranial structure, which is sometimes caused by the jaw and nose shrinking is less evident.

Furthermore, they suffer from progressive retinal atrophy and cataracts, which may further deteriorate their loss of vision. Moreover, they also suffer from potential tracheal collapse, a weakness in the windpipe that can cause serious respiratory problems.

Two more common conditions, though, that seem to afflict the hipster population with greater regularity are heart defects and hip dysplasia – a deformity wherein the ball at the top of the femur does not properly fit into its socket in the pelvic bone.
Bloating which is gas in the stomach and allergies and skin diseases are also something that you should look after. To be screened for diseases, these dogs would need to visit periodically and receive proper veterinary care.

Grooming and Care of Husky Poodle

    Husky-Poodle

    Coat color

They are the blend of both their Husky and Poodle parents. So their coat color is generally black, white, or grey color. The Husky Poodles of coat color red or brown are very rare. The coat can be of a single color or can be a combo of these colors.

    Shedding

Husky Poodles may have a curly coat if they inherit poodle genes or may have a straight coat if the genes of Husky are more prominent. The Huskydoodles of curly coat don’t shed much and this is the reason why many people go for them. But still, there may be some seasonal shedding. If they inherit a Husky coat, then there will be some serious shedding.

    Temperature

Husky Poodles have the quality of endearing any weather conditions. They have the tendency to withstand cold weather well if they inherit a Husky double coat. But they shouldn’t be in cold weather for a very long time. Make sure you don’t keep them in a hot environment either. They easily get heat stroke.

    Grooming

You should trim their hair every two months, this will prevent them from shedding much. Bathe them when they are dirty or are smelling. Trim their nails once a week. Also, clean their ears regularly to prevent them from getting ear mites. You should brush their teeth daily or at least once a week. Remove their eye boogers daily.

    Regular Checkups

Take your Husky Poodle to a vet for regular checkups. This will help in diagnosing any health issue before it is too late. Your vet will tell you anything you should be worried about. He will also create a healthy diet for your pup.

    High-maintained

Husky Poodles are very good for people with allergies because they are very high maintained. They like to be neat and clean and will need proper care from you. They would like for you to take good care of them and their coat. You will have to groom them daily.

    Final Closure

In the end, they are an amiable and intelligent breed. They are affectionate and engaging companions. Because of their high energy levels, they want your attention all the play. You need to be patient with them if they are being stubborn. You should train them at an early age to make them socialized. They are very vocalized and may howl or bark. It would help if you also take them to vets for regular checkups.
